1. Summary#
In its current static implementation, irrgang.dev uses no analytics, advertising, or marketing cookies. A general cookie-consent banner is therefore not part of the website.
The website does use functional browser-side storage for the appearance selected by the user. Cloudflare Web Analytics works without cookies or other persistent client-side storage. In addition, Cloudflare may set technically necessary cookies in certain security situations.
2. Browser-side storage used by the website theme#
The Hugo theme Blowfish stores a manually selected light/dark appearance in the browser’s Local Storage:
| Key | Storage type | Value | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
appearance | Local Storage | light or dark | Remember the appearance selected by the user | Until overwritten or the site’s browser data is deleted |
The value is used only for presentation. It contains no user ID, is not sent to an analytics provider, and is not used to create usage profiles.
Local Storage is technically not a cookie. Section 25 TDDDG, however, applies generally to storing information in a user’s terminal equipment and accessing information already stored there. The storage described here is a functional response to the appearance selected by the user.
3. Cloudflare Web Analytics without cookies#
I use Cloudflare Web Analytics for coarse-grained usage and performance statistics. According to Cloudflare, the RUM beacon collects page-view and performance data from browser APIs but does not read or store cookies, Local Storage, Session Storage, or IndexedDB data, and does not fingerprint individual visitors.
The analytics service therefore does not access information already stored on the user’s device and does not place an analytics identifier there. It is therefore not the reason for a cookie-consent banner on this website.

4. Cloudflare security cookies#
The website is delivered through Cloudflare. Depending on Cloudflare security features that are enabled or actually triggered, Cloudflare may set technically necessary cookies. For example, after a Cloudflare security challenge, a cf_clearance cookie may be used to record that the challenge has been passed.
Which Cloudflare cookies are actually set depends on the security function and the particular request. They are used for delivery, traffic management, or protection of the website rather than for my own web analytics or advertising.
Further information: Cloudflare Cookies.
5. No advertising tracking technologies#
No services are configured for remarketing, personalised advertising, or comparable cross-site tracking. The consent-management system used by the former WordPress installation is also no longer integrated.
If other consent-dependent technologies are added in the future, this page must be updated before activation and consent must be obtained where required.
6. Browser settings#
You can inspect and delete cookies and Local Storage data through your browser’s privacy or site-data settings. Deleting the appearance key only resets the stored appearance preference.
For further information about the processing of personal data, see the Privacy Policy.
